The Day After Monday.

You know how I said I loved John Donne? I still do, but never read "Batter my heart" AKA Holy sonnet # 14. I think he goes a little crazy in that one. It's not worth it.

DO, however, read Holy sonnet # 10-"Death be not proud". That one is fantastic.

Yesterday was horrible. All because I decided to watch the Oscars. From 11:30-12:30 I worked on a paper and studied. 12:30-3:00 I slept. I needed it, but I never went into a deep sleep. A good thing because if I had, I would have probably stayed asleep.

3:00-5:00 I finished my paper. It took me exactly that amount of time. And thank goodness. I showered, made my way to mom and dads to print my paper and such. Then it was to the Scott Brundage Farm to do bird point count and transect surveys. 6:15-7:45. It was a beautiful morning and it was wonderful to hear the birds, though they were all the same. I thought I found all the flag marked points to do my counts. I found out later that I had the wrong points. Frustrating. I tell you, this class involves a massive amount of work. BUT it is NOT my least favorite class. That title goes to Animal Population Dynamics and Management (PopDy for short).

I agree with my fellow editor, Tom. We had better be getting buku (bucu? bookoo?) points in the peer evaluations for all the work we are doing. We are the ones who make the paper awesome. We give it a face lift, lip enhancements and liposuction before it goes to the people who will criticize it, call it too fat, too old, and too ugly. Not that the others don't do a lot of work. They do. But we have to be the meticulus ones. Thank goodness for Josh and Becky for being good writers already.

Moving on. I was late for my folklore class. I dont think I missed much. The hour between Folklore and Icthyology was spent studying for test in the latter class. I got a 30% on the first test. Feel free to be shocked disgusted. I was. I think I got a B on this test, though I couldn't for the life of me remember what fish family Esocidae was so I made something up to describe their teeth. I was WAAAAAY off. But I still think I got a B.

Then it was to Brit. Lit. where I read Holy sonnet # 14 aloud. Made 70% of the comments in the class (they are not talkers). Half the time I am keeping my mouth shut so that other have a chance to talk. But they dont. So half the time the teacher answers her own questions. I got really annoyed at a girl who read Holy sonnet # 10 they way the lines are written. It went something like this...

Death, be not proud, though some have callèd thee.

Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so.

For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow.

Die not, poor death, nor yet canst thou kill me.

Etc.

When it should be.....

Death, be not proud, though some have called the mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so. For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow die not, poor death, nor canst thou kill me.

It is one of my pet peeves when people read poetry the wrong way. There is punctuation for a reason. There are sentences. I know I shouldn't get this worked up about it, but I can't help it.

After nearly falling asleep in the last 10 minutes of Brit. Lit. I went to the computer to do all the plastic surgery on my groups paper. That took me right to 1:30. I met my fellow editor and we collaborated our work.

(I know that Elise made mention that for someone who claims to be a good editor, my blogs often contain their fair share of misspesllings (is that spelled right?) and punctuation errors. To be fair, when I blog, I just type and then post. I never go back, re-read, and edit. So there you have it.)

This took a good 2.5 hours. Then I got to sit in the class centered around this paper for 2 hours. I got a little loopy there in the end.

I later watched 24.

Then it was time for sleep.

I know that my acocunt of Monday is the most interesting thing you will ever read. Especially since the post is titled "The Day After Monday". I just don't want to do my PopDy homework. I am putting it off by blogging. My favorite distraction.

But I think it's time to stop now. Here is a list of things to make me happy so that I don't get to depressed with my insane life right now.

1. Slumdog Millionaire won best picture
2. We got to see Hugh Jackman sing and dance more than once.
3. Dave Barry's 24 blog.
4. Going to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with Kirsti for spring break. Camping, horseback riding, road trip...it's going to be awesome.
5. Stomp! This Wednesday!!! I am really excited for that.
6. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers-part one this Friday night. Anyone want to join my and Kirsti?
7. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers-Part two Saturday night.
8. Beckie being home for a spell. That is REALLY exciting!

Thats all I got. What are you happy for right now? I want to know, so tell me!

F-R-I-D-A-Y!!!

Here I am. Watching Psych. You know what I still have to do?

Several things.

Guess when I am going to do them?

Not right now.

Later.

First of all, I am about to say something not nice about people that shall remain nameless.

They shall remain nameless because I don't really know their names.

And I'm not going to say anything horrible. I just lost respect for some people in my folklore class today.

First of all, there is this girl in there. I really didn't want to believe it, but she is one of the most unintelligent people I have ever encountered. ONE of the most. Not THE most.

Anyway, one of the other students told a joke. An elephant joke.

Q: What do you do to a Blue Elephant?
A: Try to cheer it up.

Most people groaned. Some chuckled. This girl says, "Wait, I don't get it"

This is the third or fourth time that a joke has been told and she has piped up with "I don't get it." This would be fine (annoying but fine) except later another girl said "I think the dirty jokes are funniest."

The "I don't get it" girl and another girl piped up in agreement.

I wanted to shoot myself in the head. Seriously? It's come to it that humor cant be pure and clean? There has to be some sort of vulgarity in it for a joke to be funny? I have noticed that most of the jokes that circulate among people my age involve sex or sexual activity. It's horrible. Most of the time when someone says they want me to tell them a joke I know I don't want to hear it.

I couldn't believe what I heard. Well, I could believe it, but I really wish it weren't true.

Anyway, that really all I had to say.

Second: Boy has it been a crazy week. Stressful. Tiring. I am glad to be taking a break. But it's not done yet.

Third: For those of you who have not ever seen psych, you need to! It is incredibly funny and ridiculous and I know that most of you in that family would love it. Best of all, the episodes are not consecutive. You can just start anywhere and watch. You could watch an episode from the most recent season and still think it's funny (though it is funnier having seen episodes from season 1 and 2).

I was snorting in the computer lab.

Time to go I think. I am watching Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring with Kirsti tonight. I am SO EXCITED!!! Boy, you have no idea. Funny though. This is the conversation that occured on Facebook.

I posted the following status.

Me:Sarah is in LOVE with the Narnia movies and is REALLY PSYCHED to watch LOTR this weekend!!! (I am SUCH a nerd and I love it!)

Joni Worth Resa:
LOVE both of those Movies (and sequels)...I guess we are both nerds...

Jamilyn Haban: it must be a family thing because I love them too!!!

Jeremy Davies : I hate all of them... :P lol. Ok... not really. They rule!!

Joni Worth Resa: Why do you have to be such a HATER...Jeremy??!!! ...lol...j/k

Jeremy Davies: ..... I can't come up with anything to say... lol

Joni Worth Resa: I think our whole family is a bunch of geeks!!!!...How about that! LOL

Jeremy Davies: That sounds about right. Haha

Kendra Kabel: umm... excuse me- yall just better speak for yourselves!!!

Kendra Kabel : I guess that's "partially" true.... hmmmm... *frantically searching for the Delete FB Friend option*.......

Joni Worth Resa: LOL....YouKNOW your proud to be related to us!

Sarah Lambson : Okay, I hope you all know that you made me snort-laugh in my class in which I am NOT supposed to be on facebook! I hope you're happy. But seriously. I love it that most of us ARE geeks, thanks in part to our upbringing I'm sure...

Joni Worth Resa: LOL...that made me laugh as well!!! (i'm at work...hehe) ,just think Sarah...It all started with your "nerd" comment.

This facebook "conversation" really made me laugh. We really are all nerds, thanks in part to the previous generation. THANKS MOM AND DAD!!!

Okay, goodbye everyone. I have to go piddle now.

"Hope not for mind in women; at their best Sweetness and wit, they'are but mummy, possess'd"

-John Donne "Love's Alchemy"

Not to be too severe on my own sex, but he got it pretty much right when it comes to a lot of women.

If you have never read any John Donne, do so. Now. RIGHT NOW! Stop what you are doing, go online, look up John Donne and READ HIS STUFF!

It is HI-larious. I'm pretty sure that he is trying to be witty and ironic. But I DONT think he meant for people to laugh out loud at his stuff (which I do). I am speaking specifically of his poems from "Songs and Sonnets". If you don't like poetry then don't bother. You'll just want to rip your hair out.

I have a lot of things that I REALLY need to be doing right now. But I am taking a little break.

I curently have 7 Microsoft word documents open. They all need to be edited before 3:30. Maybe THIS is what it feels like to work for a living. Of course I wouldn't have classes in between and I would already be done.

Mmmmmm...blueberry muffin like only Dad can make. It needs heat and butter.

I also have to read about 50 pages worth of info on Pipistrell bats so I can write a two page paper on them by tomorrow at 9:00 am. Tell me how that makes sense?

On top of that I have...(I'm going to list. Try not to fall asleep. It's a long one)

1. Icthyology notecards to make with color pictures of the fish so I know what they look like (about 50 fish for this first test)

2. Either find the papers on Fathead minnows that I need, or request them through inter-library loan. The key is looking EVERYWHERE to make sure I really DO have to request them so the library people don't get mad at me for requesting somehting that they have.

3. Do my lab report for Animal Population Dynamics and Management. I got a 25/25 on the last one. I have no idea how since I was mostly making stuff up that sounded good. Either that or I really DID understand what I was talking about. I hope this is the case for this report.

4. Start writing my paper on The Canterbury Tales Vs. Twelfth Night.

5. File my FAFSA which I can't do until I do my taxes

6. Do my taxes

7. Get new tires for my car finally

8. Catch up on Lost

9. Study for a test in Icthyology that I have Next Monday

10. Clean my Bird and Degus cage

All while working and going to class. I think I am either going to explode, melt, go gibbering mad, cry, break a computer, eat my weight in chocolater and sunflower seeds, or a combination of all those things.

I am trying to keep a good attitude through all of this. This requires several stratagies.

For example-right NOW I am ignoring the lineup of open documents minimized on the status bar of the computer while updating my blog! How's that for putting off the inevitable?

-I am enjoying listening to my iPod and eating Apple Cinnamon Crispy Oats (me and Kirsti made a soing about them once...It went a little something like this: "Apple Cinnamon Crispy Oats taste like lotion!" More of a jingle really. I can't remember why they tasted like lotion).

-Okay. I just got really sad because I looked at the time and realized that it is now 12:34. I have less than 3 hours to get all this stuff edited. Why can't people be gramatically correct and excellent writers so I dont have to do this?

BYEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Question...

When

will

I

become

me
?

Or am I me already and just don't realize it yet?

"With all due respect, Madam President...ask around."

-Jack Bauer when President Taylor asks how she can be sure where his loyalties lie. That is the Jack Bauer I have been waiting for.

Just a quick update. Because that is what I do when I need to be doing other things.

I am in the process of furiously searching the internet for articles about fathead minnows, their embryos and oxygen consumption. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be that much out there. At least not for fathead minnows.

The 2 hours I spent editing the outline for my practicum class was wasted time. We didn't even need it.

Sometimes, teachers make things worse. We had a mission and vision statement all worked out after 45 minutes of staring at a projector screen. Then the three professors that teach practicum come in and tear our work apart. I agree that what we had needed a little work. But the completely undo 45 minutes of work? It made me VERY angry.

I feel like I have too many things to do. I have the time to do them but I just can't get myself into order. I need to have an agenda written out or something.

It seems like everyone is getting sick. If you haven't heard, Mom and Dad are experiencing flu like symptoms and mom has a urinary tract infection. Me and Kirsti are at the tail end of colds and Kirsti is afraid she will get what Mom and Dad have. I'm not sure how Noah is doing. I hope better.

I really wish that it was as cold as it is supposed to be in February. The warm weather is nice. And I was getting sick of "cold for the sake of cold" weather with NO SNOW! But c'mon. It's FEBRUARY!!! Still winter! 70 degrees? No. It's not right.

I have a million things to read/write/gather/record/watch so I am going to get on that.

Happy Tuesday everyone.

"Pimephales promelas"

I know, I know.

I just posted yesterday. And for no good reason. I have a better one now.

Not that much better but at least its a little more interesting.

I. HATE. WEDNESDAYS!

Thats not all. I also hate hard chairs, mornings coat my car in that annoying layer of frost, being sick...

wait, no! That's not what I wanted to post about.

Getting back on track.

I love Lord of the Rings. Who doesn't?

Thats not what I wanted to post about either.

What I really wanted to post about was Icthyology.

First off, I failed the first 70 point quiz. I completely forgot that we even had a quiz today. I think I would have gotten a big fat ZERO if I hadn't looked over my notes the other day. I was punching myself in the head the whole time.

Do you think that made it harder to take the test? Hitting myself might have been too distracting.

Anyway, by my calculations I got a 50%. And just when I was telling Dr. Noltie that I am a serious student and have the motivation needed to do a solo project.

So much for trying to do better this semester.

Speaking of Dr. Noltie, fish and solo projects...

In Icthyology lab we are supposed to form groups to do different experiments on a certain species of fish. You sign up for your species, do an experiment on their social habits, habitat choice and swimming ability depending on the week. Then together you write up a report. Each person does a different section of the report and the one person edits it to make it cohesive.

Here is where I cringed. As I have mentioned, I think I am a somewhat competent editor. But I am very picky. And this group of students are of the younge age class (this is a sophmore lever class). So they may not have those fine tuned writing skills that most senior level science students have. This may be an unfair assumption. But I relaly hated doing group work in my freshman and sophomore classes. It wasn't until last year that I was in a group that I could trust to get stuff done. I also saw the potential for these experiments to be somewhat dull, repetative and much like the ones I may have done in high school (except we would use live animals).

Dr. Noltie said that if there were any students that wanted to take initiative and work on a project all their own they could come see him.

This intrested me greatly. My biggest fear was that I was going to have to come up with this complex experiment all on my own. I know I should be able to do that, and I have in the past. But my experimental hypotheses always turn out lame and stupid.

My fears we pointless. I talked to Dr. Noltie about this solo project. It turns out that he already has one in mind. The equipment exists, is set up and everything is ready. The question has been proposed. He just needs someone willing to work with the equipment, gather the background info and put the experiment into motion.

So you are now looking at the scientist who will study the effects of water oxygen levels on the embryotic development of Fathead minnows.

I thought I would hate Icthyology. So far I was correct in my thinking. But I am actually excited for this little solo project. Here are the benefits.

1. I get some real world scientific experience. Not just what I would find in lab.

2. I get to form a better relationship with Dr. Noltie (a rather frightening prospect, but it would make for a good reference)

3.I get to work at my own pace. There will be no "turn in the pre-experiment sheet on this date" or "have your post report due this day" kind of restrictions. I will collect the data on my own time. I will do all the work on my own schedule. And I will turn in a paper at the end of the semester. Also a poster.

-this means that I need to be motivated. But I know that I can do this. I WANT to do this. I think it will greatly enhance my learning experience.

So, thats all I had in terms of real news.

I have to spend the next half an hour looking up literature for Fathead minnows and such.

I'M SLOWLY BECOMING A SCIENTIST!!!

In Five Minutes

I have to be quick.

I have 5 minutes to waste and this is how I'm going to spend them.

First off, thanks to all of you expressing relief that nothing terrible happened last Tuesday.

Also, I just have to say, that so far my least favorite class is Animal Population Dynamics. The homework you have to do for lab makes me want to throw the computer across the room. sadly, I am on campus and I would have to pay for the damage.

I have now been given the assignment of editor for my Practicum group. That makes me happy. When it comes to writing I am rather picky. I think I would be frustrated if I wasn't in on the editing process. It's me and this other guy.

I think I am getting sick again. It's the feeling you get in the back of your throat just as you are getting a cold. I hardly ever get sick. This makes twice in about a month. A little less than, actually.

I really don't have much more to add.

This has been a brief update of the life of me. Tune in next time for nothing spectacular. It's the start of the semester people. Nothing exciting EVER happens.

Bye!
